Abstract

The article reviews and proposes several trends of thought about the cognitive approach which, though criticized by linguists, has proven useful in language teaching, translation, terminology, etc. The author starts by examining the basic concepts of cognitive linguistics and continues by speaking about motivation, as well as mental domains and spaces. This analysis is completed by a glossary of terms used in cognitive linguistics and by a guiding bibliography in the field.
