Abstract

This article reviews the main items presented by Henri Besse in his book Méthodes et pratiques des manuels de langue, published at Didier in 2005. After having defined the concepts of "method" and "textbook", the author makes a classification of the different methods that were used through the history, emphasizing their specific features and the influence they had upon the teaching/learning foreign languages process. He also dedicates three chapters of his book to a detailed analysis of the contents and approaches of the three textbooks that put into practice the theories of the SGAV method: Voix et Images de France, De Vive Voix et Archipel.
