The Universal Literary Motif of Human Sacrifice for the Erection of a Structure

This paper outlines a number of instances of a literary motif which is to be noticed in varied cultural regions and periods of time. More specifically, a human sacrifice is needed and usually requested by a divine will, as a price for the erection of a long-lasting monumental building. The author mentions stories and legends that refer to this literary motif such as the building of Argesh Monastery, Vortigern tower, and the more modern Golding's Spire.
