Abstract

In our global world, the distance and the interval seem to be cancelled due to the spectacular development of the high technology in the field of communication. Hence this perception of the intercultural as something already acquired, as a solution to all issues raised by strangeness. Yet, paradoxically, this permanent comings and goings, instead of favouring the homogenisation of values, casts doubt on the very concept of cultural unity which is, for example, at the root of the European Union construction. What is the role of language teacher's role in this intercultural context? Can he be a mediator between different cultures or is it better that he guide his learners towards the perception of the strangeness as an in-between space, a space where the prefix inter refers not only to the link, reciprocity, exchange but also to the separation and disjunction? These are the questions this article intends to provide an answer among others.
